This course surveys Vietnam’s rich history in the context of its geography and climate, tracing the country’s origins and the beginning of nationalism. Students view the collision of cultures with the West from a Vietnamese standpoint, and understand how the American experience in Vietnam influences trends in foreign policy and military thought.
