Sharpsburg, Maryland is an ideal place for a parade. First, Sharpsburg is a picturesque town of about 1000 residents. There’s a long historic main street that makes for postcard perfect photos. Among the many historic buildings and homes are quaint shops, restaurants, Inns and ice cream for the kids. During the parade there are street vendors selling hotdogs, cold drinks and other refreshments.
Add to all of the above the involvement of every civic and private organization you can think of and you have all the ingredients of an outstanding parade! After the parade there’s the Antietam National Battlefield at the end of the parade route. So, if you didn’t make it this Memorial Day be sure to make plans to attend this annual event next year. Make a day of it and spend some time exploring nearby Boonsboro too you’ll be glad you did! If you like Civil War history join the Gettysburg YouTube Group.
