Star Spangled Banner 2013

Mount Olivet Cemetery, 515 South Market St. Francis Scott Key handed the "Star-Spangled Banner" song lyrics to his brother-in-law in 1814, the manuscript will be back with its author as it arrives at Key's monument and grave on its return trip to Baltimore. The "Star-Spangled Banner" manuscript arrived at Mount Olivet Cemetery escorted by The Old Guard and horse-mounted units from the National Capital Park Police -- Montgomery County. Units with The U.S. Army Old Guard include Colonial Fife and Drum Corps, Colorguard, and Escort Platoon. The ceremony included Dr. William Beanes (10:57) and Tracie Luck (04:05), a professional opera singer who grew up in Frederick, and the Fort McHenry Guard Fife and Drum Corps.

New interpretive markers that focus on Key's connections to Frederick, the writing of the "Star-Spangled Banner," and the story of the monument were also be unveiled. The manuscript was then returned to its permanent home at the Maryland Historical Society in Baltimore.
